As it's valentines day, we thought we'd rundown some of the most romantic moments and people in the history of doctor who. Below are some of the notable romantic moments and people in the show.
10. Vastra and Jenny
Vastra and Jenny first appeared in a good man goes to war, but their notable first return was the snowmen. They also appeared in two other stories. They are very good examples of how doctor who reflects the subject of the LGBT community.
9. The doctor and Rinnette
The girl in the fireplace is a perfect example of love in doctor who-and this is a sweet example of such. A one off appearance of this relationship, but it leads to an emotional plotline.
8. The doctor and Cameca
William Hartnell! Oh how much of a charmer he was! In the aztecs, the doctor proposes to Cameca. However, we do not see a wedding, but it would be great to see where Cameca is now. Big Finish, you know you want to!
7. The doctor and Astrid
In the voyage of the damned, the doctor falls in love with Astrid Peth, one of the waitresses on the titanic. Sadly, she is killed among many others, leading to another tragic love story.
6. Jack and Ianto
Although only seen in a few episodes in doctor who, Captain Jack Harkness has his own spin off series named torchwood. In this he falls in love with one of the torchwood crew-Ianto Jones.
5. Clara and Danny
Clara Oswald, the most recent companion of the doctor's, had a boyfriend named Danny Pink in season 8. However, he is soon converted into a cyberman, leading to another emotional ending to their relationship.
4. Ben and Polly
Ben and Polly were two of the oldest companions to the doctor in his first and second incarnations-but they came to the TARDIS and left the TARDIS together-leading to being a great doctor who couple.
3. Amy and Rory
Amy and Rory are one of the newest-and most popular couples-from the modern era of doctor who. They would do anything to save each other-leading to another perfect example of a great couple.
2. Ian and Barbara
Ian and Barbara are the first companions of the doctor, as well as Susan, and like Ben and Polly, came to the TARDIS and left the TARDIS together. They are one of the best and well known couples in the show's history.
The doctor and Rose
The doctor's companions always loved the doctor-in a way of admiring and in other ways as well. Rose was the most striking of these examples-leading to another doctor and companion crush.
The doctor and Martha
Martha always fancied the doctor-but the doctor did not fancy Martha. This was an interesting chemistry that some liked and some didn't, leading to some character development for Martha's character.
The doctor and Queen Elizabeth
The doctor got around-and one of his four wives was Queen Elizabeth I. Seen in the day of the doctor and angry at the doctor in the Shakespeare code, this is an example of a relationship that won't end well.
The doctor and Marlyn monroe
Another of the doctors four wives that missed out on joining our top 10. Mentioned first in A Christmas carol and although never seen, the doctor did get married to the famous singer.
Lucy and Grant
Seen recently in the latest Christmas episode, the return of doctor mysterio, a complicated love triangle was created, as Lucy, an investigative reporter, fell in love with Grant (Aka superhero, the ghost)

The doctor and River Song are the best couple in doctor who history. Seen most recently in the husbands of River Song, this complicated marriage has led to some of the most tearjerking and shocking moments in doctor who history
